“I’ve always believed in giving back. There are so many organizations worthy of our support, and many of us have personal connections with the groups that win our charitable dollars. Close to my heart is Father Martin’s Ashley, the treatment center that saved my life. It is truly a place where miracles happen. When one of my best friends died of lung cancer, I learned about Protect Your Lungs. Did you know that every year 130,000 lung cancer deaths could be prevented if only we had a good early-detection test? And the Komen Foundation. I was a founding member of the National Race for the Cure in DC when no one even wanted to discuss ‘breasts.’ Whether it’s to these or some other organizations, offering volunteer hours or adding even the smallest donations can make a difference.”

Sorkin chaired the event with honorary chair, singer and actress Lynda Carter. LUNGevity is one of America’s fast-growing charities and it is dedicated to raising money for lung cancer research. Lung cancer affects 1 in 14 Americans and kills more than 160,000 people each year.

Washington DC AIDS Walk

Lynda was the Grand Marshal for this year’s AIDS Walk Washington. “It’s a great honor to help support Whitman-Walker Clinic and the work they do for people living with HIV/AIDS,” said Ms Carter. “This city has been my home for many years and I have been very familiar with the work the Clinic does from free HIV testing to full health care services. I have some experience with playing a hero, but that’s nothing compared to the heroic work Whitman-Walker Clinic does every day. I appreciate everyone in DC who took part in this great event.”
